PRISCILLA AHN, La La La
In October, Priscilla Ahn released her new album La La La. Since then, the album has garnered awards from NAPPA and Family Choice, and it did so for good reason. This album is filled with lovely, soulful music that does not pander to children, but instead echoes aspects of their lives. A new mom herself, Priscilla Ahn’s introspective insights into the ephemeral quality of childhood is sensitive, delicate and touching. Upon first hearing Priscilla Ahn’s vocals, I was struck by the sweet, pure, haunting quality of her voice, not unlike Petra Hayden’s (That Dog, Tito & Tarantula, and The Decemberists). Some stand out tracks are Elephant, one of the more upbeat pop songs on the album that has a toy piano track layered in with more conventional instrumentation, All by Myself, a quiet song with layered light vocals, ukele, and toy piano, and Desert Lullaby, which is a beautifully spare, wistful waltz sung in a minor key. Take a listen, you and your family are in for a sonic treat.
