Oh Hilda, you magical magical show. My daughter and I discovered the Netflix’s series based on the graphic novels by Luke Pearson this past summer much to our delight. If you haven’t watched an episode yet, I highly recommend doing so AND picking up the graphic novel series. Set in Scandinavia, the show and the novels capture a freedom inherent in childhood and our connection to nature. “But I think much of the focus on how the show feels over what the show is can be attributed to Hilda’s gentleness. Even when Hilda has adventures or meets monsters, the peril she’s in feels secondary to the opportunity it gives her to grow as a person and gain emotional maturity.” (Emily Todd VanDerWerff, culture writer at Vox, read her full review here )
The show inspired a playlist of the songs featured in Hilda season 1 (season 2 is green lit and on its way, YAY!) and new songs from the kindie scene, released over the summer. Enjoy!
